Distribution Improvements

Improvement works are underway to further improve efficiencies at one of GAP’s regional distribution centres in Lancashire.

A bulldozer and diggers have been out in full force this week at one of GAP’s regional distribution centres to improve yard access to all HGV's delivering to, or loading from the site.

Our regional distribution centre, which was previously known as our central distribution warehouse, has successfully served the GAP network of depots since it was built over 10 years ago in 2007.

Following the acquisition of SIG Windows and SIG Building Products back in August 2017, and the addition of over 60 new depots, the time was right to upgrade the site to allow it to cope with increased volumes and most importantly to keep meeting the demands for our 31,000 customers nationwide.

Currently HGV’s have to reverse in from Partnership Way to either load or unload, but once the work is complete it will allow HGV’s to approach the Blackburn site from the North entrance off Sett End Road, and then exit onto Partnership Way, making it much more efficient and safer for all drivers and warehouse team members.

As well as receiving up to 5 HGV deliveries a day from Homeline (GAP’s manufacturing brand for all PVC-U building products), the RDC is also the delivery point for 3rd party ‘bought-in’ products that aren’t always stocked locally at GAP depots.

Once the work is complete it will also make it easier for Rockdoors, Windows and Door Panels to be unloaded ready to make their onward journey to the relevant GAP depot ready for collection or delivery.

Work is expected to be completed in early in 2018.
